Ex-Gov tells PDP to Zone Plateau Governorship to Central District

A former Governor of Plateau State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fidelis Tapgun, has expressed concern after the party ignored the central senatorial district of the state in zoning its 2023 governorship ticket.

He lamented that mistakes over the years had prolonged the crisis that had rocked the party, insisting that failure to zone the governorship to the central zone would rob the party of victory in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking to newsmen in Jos on Sunday, he enjoined the former Commissioner for Works, Chris Hassan, to reconcile all aggrieved factions and work hard to ensure that PDP reclaimed power from All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming election in the state.

The former governor said, “The PDP in Plateau State has passed through a lot in the past but I believe the emergence of a new exco during the just concluded state congress offers the party a new beginning for greatness. And I blame the party crisis on those who thought that they own the party to the exclusion of other stakeholders.”

According to Tapgun, experience has shown that everyone is important in the party and hopes the emergence of a new state exco led by Chris Hassan would mark the end of the party crisis in the state.

He advised the new EXCO to work very hard and return power to the PDP come 2023, assuring that the people still have confidence in the party to provide good governance and the only way to achieve victory is for the party to respect zoning for the governorship in Plateau State because it has come to stay.

The former governor noted that given the fact that the southern zone would complete its eight-year tenure in 2023 after the northern zone had held power for eight years, it is the turn of the central zone to produce the next governor in 2023.

He assured that PDP would lose the governorship in 2023 of the party if it does not zone the governorship to the central zone.
