Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday plenary lamented the incessant gridlock along Oshodi/Apapa road; thereby calling on relevant government agencies to restore normalcy on the road.
Observation on the ugly development was raised Under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meiranda, representing Apapa Constituency I.
Hon. Meiranda in her submission stated that the gridlock has a huge effect on the economy of the State and most importantly hinder workers, students and indeed Lagosian from getting to their various destinations as scheduled.
Hon Bisi Yusuf, however recalled that a LASTMA official was killed on that road sometime ago and advised constant monitoring of the area by relevant agencies.
“Those who are in charge of monitoring the road should intensify their efforts by ensuring that trucks and trailers are evacuated to allow for free flow of traffic on the road.”
In his contribution, Hon. Olowo suggested that the House should summon the Ministry of Works, NUPENG and LASTMA on the proper measures to curb the increasing hold-up on that road.
“We are the representative of the people and I suggest we have a meeting with the representative of NUPENG in Lagos State to find a lasting solution to this problem’’ Olowo stated.
Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso added that the gridlock is as a result of the trailers parked along the road.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in his remarks stated that LASTMA, the agency in charge of ensuring the free flow of traffic should be alive to its responsibility, by ensuring that trucks that are parked on the road (Apapa/Oshodi) are removed immediately for easy movement of workers, traders, students and all other individuals plying the road.
